Prep for interviews with the STAR method

3 min read

For behavioral questions — "tell me about a time…" — structure your answer as Situation, Task, Action, Result. Say what the context was, what you were responsible for, what you specifically did, and how it turned out. Quantify the result whenever you can.

Prepare stories, not scripts

You cannot script every possible question, and trying to makes you sound rehearsed. Instead, prepare five or six real stories from your experience that you can flex to different prompts. Most interviews recombine the same themes: conflict, ownership, failure, impact, and leadership.

For each story, know the numbers and know what you would do differently. Interviewers probe — the follow-up question is where the signal is.

Landably scores your matches and writes the tailored resume, cover letter, and interview prep for you.
