Why Landably doesn't auto-apply

Tools that promise to "apply to 100 jobs while you sleep" are selling a bigger firehose into a market already drowning in AI-generated applications. We built the opposite on purpose. Here's the reasoning — with the numbers.

The math is not close

Jobscan's 2026 analysis of auto-apply tools found that customized applications convert to interviews at roughly 5.75%, while generic volume auto-applying converts at about 0.4% — a ~14× difference in favor of fewer, tailored applications. Meanwhile Ashby's analysis of 109 million applications shows applications-per-hire tripled since 2021, with 78% now containing AI-generated content. Recruiters aren't reading more — they're filtering harder.

Ten tailored applications beat a hundred sprayed ones. That's not a philosophy; it's the published conversion data.

The risk lands on you, not the bot

Auto-apply tools work by scripting a browser to impersonate you — against the terms of service of essentially every major job platform. Review coverage of the category reports accounts restricted for "human-impossible" application velocity, submissions that silently fail after the tool reports success, and the category's own customer ratings sitting in the 2-star range, dominated by billing and cancellation complaints. When an account gets flagged, it's your LinkedIn, your applicant profile — the tool just loses a subscriber.
