Write a cover letter someone actually reads
3 min read
Three short paragraphs beat one long one. Reviewers skim, and they can spot a template in the first line.
A structure that works
- Open with why this company and this role — something specific, not "I am writing to apply for…".
- Middle: connect one or two concrete achievements to what they need, with numbers where you have them.
- Close with a clear, low-pressure ask and a thank-you.
Skip the thesaurus. Write the way you would talk to a smart colleague — the goal is to sound like someone they would want to interview, not someone performing formality. And keep it to under a page; nobody wishes your cover letter were longer.
